The Post-Basic Degree in Nursing is a comprehensive two-year course to build skills and competencies at the Guru Hargobind College of Nursing. It aims to improve the critical thinking skills, competencies, and standards necessary to practice professional nursing and midwifery, as envisioned in national health policy.

The program is intended to enable the graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at a basic level in providing pro-motive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services. In addition, graduates make independent decisions in care settings to protect and promote the rights of individuals and groups to seek health, work in a hospital and community care services, and conduct research. They are also expected to take on teacher, supervisor, and manager roles in clinical/public health.
